Freddie Mercury’s evening dress ensemble
A two-piece black wool dinner suit, the single breasted jacket with satin lapels, jetted pockets, breast pocket and single button fastening, lined in black ‘silk’, labelled ‘Moss Bros, Covent Garden’ with a pair of flat fronted black wool evening trousers with black braid to the sides of each leg, one button-fastening back pocket, waistband with two buckle adjustors to either side and concealed hook and eye fastening, unlabelled; a white cotton evening shirt with pleated front and concealed button fastening, wing collar and double cuff, the inside collar ink-stamped ’62 3074’, labelled ‘Moss Bros, Covent Garden’; a crimson silk moiré cummerbund and matching self-tie bow tie, both unlabelled, and a pair of black patent evening shoes by ‘Bertie’, with black laces, the uppers with four lozenge-shaped cut-outs, leather soles with black non-slip tape, size 42 ½ ; and an ivory silk evening scarf with white tassel fringes either end (137 cm. long including fringe), with removable stick on ‘St.Michael’ label.
