Queen
A group of early set lists and related documents, comprising:
i-ii) Freddie Mercury, two autograph manuscript early set lists, respectively listing 10 and 12 songs, one with a sketch of the band's name in pencil, 2 pages, text on rectos only, very early 1970s
iii) Freddie Mercury, autograph manuscript set list with 12 songs from the Sheer Heart Attack Tour, on headed stationery of the St Moritz hotel, New York, probably 16 February 1975
iv) Note listing band members' equipment required for touring in their Ford Transit van, 1 page, early 1970s
v) Freddie Mercury, autograph memoranda of costs and issues relating to an early tour date ("Posters and handouts for Window Display"), probably relating to their concert in Lancaster, 16 November 1973
This fascinating small group of documents provides an exceptional insight into the early years of the band. The group includes a document listing the equipment needed for touring by each band member, excluding Freddie. This document brings to life their early gigs, with Brian, for example (who is helpfully identified as playing "Lead guitar"), taking three Vox AC 30 amps, a "Gibson SG special, second hand", along with cases and stands. There are also two very early set lists that includes Queen songs that never made it onto record such as 'Hangman' and 'Lover' as well as several songs covered by Queen in their early years, which Freddie also wrote into his lyric notebook (lot 104).
